Timeline




September- Formulate a plan and a main focus for the project. Start to get things in place to commence the project.
October- Solidify project plans, acquire materials, start getting people to style.
November- Create a social media page detailing my styles and offering educational material. Create original hairstyles. Reach out to people outside Emma Willard. Utilize materials obtained.
December- Continue to learn about hair care, and styling techniques. Make plans over Christmas Break with people outside Emma so that I can work with them in the Spring.
January- Hold a seminar detailing appropriate haircare for various hair types.
February- Hold a seminar detailing and demonstrating various types of hairstyles.
March- Continue to post on social media, and create new styles.
April- Have a display of my creations.
May- Hold a final seminar detailing various hairstyles and care.

    This is a nice timeline. Are you still thinking of doing some work off campus. You should add this if you are planning on it.

The Shampooing Problem

In February, I continued expanding my knowledge on hair care, particularly when it comes to washing ones hair. Here are my takeaways:- Different hair types have different suggested wash times, partly due to the rate of sebum- the oil on your scalp-produces, in addition to how curly your hair is. As a result, finer and straighter hair tends to allow the oil to spread down the hair shaft faster, thus making it greasier quicker.  In comparison, the curlier ones hair is, the more difficult it is for sebum to travel down the hair shaft, thus simultaneously allowing hair to be less greasy, and making it more dryer and more prone to be brittle. As a result, many people with curly hair types tend to have longer spaces between their wash days.  However, it is suggested that one should wash their hair, for straighter hair types, 3 times a week, and or curly hair types, at maximum once every 10 days.  Both overwashing and underwashing can lead to complications, with overwashing leaving hai

December Blog Post

December was quite hectic, for as a senior, I was involved in Emma Willard's longstanding tradition of Revels- our Senior Play.  Immediately after that, I flew out to Dominica, which, unfortunately, due to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Maria, was lacking in electricity and subsequently Wi-Fi. Luckily, not only did I get to dye my own hair red in Dominica but, at Emma, I was given the opportunity to try my hand at Emma in extension crotcheting, as I did a girls hair for Revels, as it was a formal event.  I fully intend to continue to style heads in January and the upcoming months with renewed vigor and creativity.

First October Blog Post

This October, particularly in the first two weeks, I did get less done than anticipated, but I was able to get more of my plans in place. I worked with my mentor, Denesha and was able to get a clearer idea of where I wanted to go with the project as well as how to get in contact with various people who  could help me in that process, both on and off campus. I also decided on broadening my project into something that could live on at Emma Willard. This idea was catalyzed when I met people who were rather interested in learning from me in order to practice and style girls' hair here in the futere. As a result, I will be adding how-to videos to my social media site once it is created. I have started to consider the logistics of that descision and am happy with what i have created so far.
